Participation of the representatives of the ERI UEPA of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in the international networking event PNRM Ukraine

On September, 13, 2024, representatives of the ERI UEPA and the Department of International Relations of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University took an active part in a special session organised by Netzwerk Wissenschaftsmanagement (Network of Education and Science Managers of Germany) in cooperation with PNRM (NGO ‘Professional Network of Education and Science Managers of Ukraine’) on the topic: “Freedom in a Nutshell: Ukrainian Experience. Freedom for new ideas in the time of war” with the support of the DAAD project - Internationalisation of Higher Education in Ukraine.

At this special session within the framework of the annual conference ‘Für Freiheit in Krisenzeiten’, participants from PNRM shared the experience of Ukrainian managers of education and science with their German colleagues. The presentations covered different aspects, but they were united by a common goal - to show the hard but fruitful work of Ukrainian universities and researchers despite the difficult times, challenges and directions in the activities of Ukrainian managers of science and education.

       In particular, the following people made presentations:

- Hanna Tolstanova, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv - The resilience of PhD school management in time of constant reform and the war in Ukraine;

- Oleksandr Khyzhniak, Free University Amsterdam - Academic freedom, scientists-refugees from Ukraine;

- Oksana Baier, Alfred Nobel University - Curriculum and academic freedom in the time of the war;

- Maryna Vasylieva and Roman Nesterenko, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University - Science management in the education of young people: challenges and opportunities during the war in Ukraine;

- Nataliia Kutsmus, Polissia National University та Інна Семененко, Східноукраїнський національний університет імені Володимира Даля - Gender, freedom and education in the era of war;

- Natalia Shalimova, Central Ukrainian National Technical University, and Viktoriia Hura, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv - Quality assurance of study programs as an effective instrument of higher education improvement: freedom for new ideas in the time of war.

The conference became an excellent discussion space for talking about the problems of education and science management in Ukraine during the war, and exchanging ideas on how to overcome them. The meeting resulted in the conclusion that the higher education system should be free from any form of discrimination and provide education in an atmosphere of equality and student-centredness, respect for diversity and human rights.

Netzwerk Wissenschaftsmanagement currently has more than 500 members across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

PNRM, as the main and still young space for the formation of education and science managers in Ukraine, is actively developing despite the difficult times and continues to attract new members to its community in order to respond to the challenges of today's education, science and innovation in the world with international colleagues.
